TREVORS TREASURES

Our Mission

On August 14, 2007, our lives were crushed when we heard the news that our five year old son, Trevor, had cancer (Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma).  Since that devastating day, we have devoted ourselves to helping our son beat this awful disease.  Trevor has since been through 5 rounds of very intense chemo, two stem cell transplants with even more intense chemo, radiation, and all of the difficult side effects that come with battling cancer.  After relapse in June of 2009, Trevor has been undergoing 6 more rounds of chemotherapy and will receive a new trial drug called ABT-751 out of Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia.  I am so happy to say that Trevor now has No Evidence of Disease.  However, the nightmare will continue as Trevor is regularly scanned to check for reoccurrence.

During Trevor’s initial seven months of treatments our family spent nearly 150 days in the hospital.  Trevor informed us, on one of those days, that when he was fortunate enough to get out of the hospital he would like to come back to visit other kids that are battling cancer while they are in the hospital.  He would like to bring a treasure chest full of toys room-to-room and allow the children there to choose, from the chest of toys, something to brighten their day.  Since Trevor came up with this generous idea, we have been working real hard to make this happen for him.  We have started a non-profit organization called “Trevor’s Treasures”.  This organization will raise money to allow Trevor to make his monthly visits to the pediatric oncology unit and outpatient clinic bearing toys in a treasure chest.  Additional funds raised will be used for other events/supplies to benefit the families as they find themselves living in the hospital or clinic during their battle with childhood cancer.  In the future, we would also like to help fund Neuroblastoma research.  Since this is such a rare form of childhood cancer, funding for research on this type of cancer is very scarce.

In an effort to raise money to make “Trevor’s Treasures” a reality, Trevor carries around a treasure box.  If you are able to donate, it is greatly appreciated.  We accept monetary and new toy donations.  If you would like to contact us for any reason, please contact Shannon Blake at (703)447-4006 or email us at TrevorsTreasures@aol.com.  Your donation is truly appreciated.  While we cannot prevent childhood cancer from happening, we can at least make it a little easier on those that are faced with the battle.

Thank you for taking the time to read about Trevor and our hopes to make life a little easier for those families out there devastated by childhood cancer.  Our mission is to deliver hope and happiness to children battling childhood cancer.
